Get Your E-Mail Read!

August 17th, 2008 Posted in E-Mail Marketing

Did you know that 90-95% of all e-mails are deleted after they are received and never read?

Why?

People today receive so much junk(spam) e-mail that they have resorted to scanning the subject lines of the e-mails they receive deciding which to open and read to save time, deleting the rest.

Think about how you look at the e-mails you receive and decide which ones you are going to open and read. You will open and read e-mails from those people or company’s you are expecting e-mail from and those that the subject line of the e-mail is believable and peaks your interest.

Now that you have opened the e-mail, the e-mails content will also have to keep you reading or you will simply delete the e-mail without reading it all the way through.

This sound about right?

You must remember that the people you send e-mails to are not all that different than you are when it comes to deciding which e-mails to open and read. If you do any type of e-mail marketing you must remember this when creating your marketing e-mails, ezine mailings and auto responder messages!

When creating your messages you need to keep in mind the following:

The Subject Line

  • Be descriptive and believable, your readers want to know what your e-mail is about before they open it.
  • Make the subject line is compelling, you want to compel your reader to take action and that action is to open the e-mail and read it!

The Content

  • Make sure your content is related to the subject used.
  • Make sure your content provides useful information and is not the same rehashed content that many others are using. Failure here will result in your e-mail getting deleted and not fully read. No one likes to read basically the same thing from several people.
  • Not all Advertisements. Many publishers load their e-mail full of advertisements and very little useful content for the reader.

Is this all you need to do, NO! We just covered some of the basics you should know and practice when e-mail marketing to get better open rates.

The subject line of your e-mails is the most important aspect of your e-mails open and read.

Getting this wrong makes none of content really matter because your e-mail will be deleted and your readers will never see your message or content you are trying to provide them.

Do it right and your open rate and success will rise several fold!
