A e-mail marketing campaign is one of the easiest and cheapest way to market your products and services. If done correctly you can generate a lot of new customers for your products and services. If done wrong you will be labeled as a spammer and e-mail you send will be blocked as spam. Worse you could loose your site ( Host kills it due to Spam being sent by you) or your ISP may kill your account if you send e-mail through them.

If you e-mail market correctly you will build your list, have a more responsive list, sale more products and services and earn a lot more money.

Here are some tips for e-mail marketing:

1. Send out targeted e-mails. Sending out thousands or millions of e-mails to those that are not interested in your products or services is called spamming. By targeting the people you e-mail market to you will increase your sales and decrease the chances you will be blocked by e-mail filtering software or out right labeled a spammer and having all your e-mails blocked as spam.

2. Allow people to unsubscribe. Make sure any e-mail you send has a clear way to unsubscribe and that the unsubscribe link works for 30 days after you last mailed them ( required by Can Spam Act). When they unsubscribe make sure they are removed from your lists, this will build credibility and decrease your chances of getting on spam block lists.

3. Don’t Hammer them with e-mail. Many email marketers make the big mistake of sending their lists several e-mails a day, why? The purpose of email marketing is to keep your product or service in front of the prospect until they decide they need it not to piss them off.

Think about it, do you like receiving many e-mails from the same person every day that really contain nothing of value for you…..answer is No right? What do you do to those e-mails? Delete them right? Well they will do the same to you and report you for spam.

So send only 2 to 3 e-mails a week to your list and make sure those e-mails have something worth reading.

4. Use your own words. Many first time e-mail marketers send the example e-mails they where given when they signed up to promote something, you should re-write these in your own words otherwise the leads are receiving the exact same e-mails from many different people and will delete and report them as spam.

Use your own words to explain why the product or service you are promoting will help them and how it will help them, give them a reason to read more and purchase from you.

5. Work Your Database. Your e-mail marketing database is your most valued asset, spend the time to keep it clean, remove duplicate e-mail address, remove any that have unsubscribed and any e-mail address’s that have bounced back to you.

6. Pick the right software or service. You will need to decide if you are going to mail from your hosting account, your home PC or use a third party services like mailing list manages, or autoresponders. What ever you choose to use make it is easy to use for you and that you understand how to use it correctly and how to generate reports from it that you can use to improve your mailing campaign.

7. Have a clear call to action. Many times a e-mail marketer will have a great sales letter but no clear defined path to action in that sales letter. Before you write your sales letter think about what you want the reader to do when they are reading your e-mail. Then Write that sales letter with a well defined path to the action you want them to take, don’t leave your reader guessing!

8. Reward them for taking that action. A reader takes the action you want ( clicks a link to order) reward them for doing so. The reward could be a free product, report, make sure it is something of value and related to what you are marketing. Bonuses as they are called are a great way to increase conversions and sales.

There are many more things you can do to increase your chances of success with e-mail marketing, we just listed a few above. Never be afraid to try something new, try it and track the results, if it does not work, try something else and keep trying to you get results. You never know you may hit a gold mine.
